Thank you so much Canongate for sending me a early copy!

UK Release August 4th.

"The gender binary forces us to lose our imagination, and we sacrifice a more complex and rich possibility in return for complying with it. We get told by someone else when we are younger that we are boy or girl, and then are expected to adhere to what it means to be a man or a woman."

Travis Alabanza has such a brilliant tone of voice that comes across so well in this book. You become immediately engaged with their stories, the format had me hooked instantly! Travis uses phrases that have been said to them and uses them as a starting point to explore what impact those words had at the time and also in their future, how the words can be seen it different ways and how it's impact changes over time. Each sentence is taken apart and looked at from every angle from each point of view.

A non-biography biography? If that makes any sense. Travis explores gender, transness and about finding your place in a world that is constantly attempting to find fault in you. I feel like this is definitely a book I will be coming back to in the future.
